Heat Unlikely To Return In Delhi: March Will Remain Pleasant
Key Takeaways:
- Delhi witnessed above-normal temperatures in early March, followed by a sharp drop after mid-month.
- Rainfall has already reached near-normal levels and may exceed the monthly average.
- Multiple Western Disturbances will keep weather conditions dynamic till month-end.
- Pre-monsoon heat is unlikely to return before the second half of April.
The first half of March was rather warmer than normal for Delhi. Mercury reached nearly 37°C on 11th Mar 2026. The temperature was in excess of 35°C for almost one week between 07th and 12th March. The reversal of the weather pattern started on 14th March, when the temperatures became near normal and later plunged even below normal. The minimum temperature also lowered substantially, and it plummeted to 13°C on 21st March, nearly 4°C below normal. The base observatory has recorded a total of 18.2 mm rainfall and reached very close to the monthly normal figure of 19.1 mm. With some more rain in the remaining days, it will exceed the average comfortably.
As per pentad normal, the capital city is supposed to have maximum temperatures between 32°–34°C during the last week of the month. The minimum temperature should remain between 16°–17°C during this period. The mercury is unlikely to exceed these limits by any big margin. There is no sharp rise in temperature, both day and night, expected in the remaining days of the month.
There is a Western Disturbance moving across the mountains of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The system will clear the region today itself. On expected lines, Delhi has witnessed light rainfall in some pockets today morning. The rains will cease very soon, and improved weather conditions are likely in the afternoon/evening. However, scattered clouds will continue to persist over most parts.
Another Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas late on 25th Mar 2026. Light rainfall is likely again after midnight on 25th Mar and 26th March. This will be a short spell of just one day. However, the closing days of the month will find yet another system to end the month on a rainy note. With the frequent change in the weather conditions, the day temperature is expected to stay better than normal. Even the nights will stay pleasant and cozily cool. Typical pre-monsoon heat is unlikely to return until the second half of April 2026.
