Key Takeaways:
- A fresh Western Disturbance will affect the northern hills between June 3 and June 6.

- Garhwal and Kumaon divisions are likely to witness widespread weather activity on June 4 and 5.
- Weather conditions are expected to improve significantly from June 6 onward.
Bad weather conditions resulted in the temporary suspension of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. As the Western Disturbance moves away, weather conditions are expected to improve between today and tomorrow. However, the arrival of a fresh weather system will trigger another spell of wet weather across the northern mountains between 03 and 06 June. Weather conditions will start improving from 06 June itself and are likely to remain favourable between 07 and 11 June 2026. Caution is advised, as mountainous terrain often continues to respond to adverse weather conditions for up to 24 hours after the weather improves.
During the pre-monsoon season from 01 March to 31 May 2026, Jammu & Kashmir and the Ladakh region recorded a seasonal rainfall deficit of 28%. Himachal Pradesh registered a marginal deficit of 10%, while Uttarakhand recorded a rainfall surplus of 28%. The upcoming Southwest Monsoon season is generally more challenging for the hill states, particularly Uttarakhand.
A Western Disturbance is expected to arrive over the mountains late on 03 June. Its intensity and spread are likely to peak on 04 and 05 June. Uttarakhand is expected to face the highest risk of adverse weather conditions. Both Garhwal and Kumaon divisions, especially the lower and middle reaches, are likely to witness fairly widespread weather activity during this period. Heavy thunderstorms accompanied by lightning strikes and isolated hailstorms are likely.
Himachal Pradesh is also expected to witness scattered rain and thunderstorms, with hailstorm activity at a few places. Jammu & Kashmir and the Ladakh region are likely to remain comparatively less affected, with light rain and showers and a minimal risk of hailstorms.
Visits to tourist destinations across the northern hills are best avoided between 03 and 05 June. Conditions are expected to start improving from 06 June, with broad weather clearance likely from 07 June onward. Favourable weather conditions are expected to continue through the middle of next week.
