Temperature rises sharply across Delhi
Delhi has witnessed a steady rise in temperatures over the past three days, pushing daytime readings well above normal for early March. The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8°C, the highest temperature of the season so far.
Earlier this month, the highest reading was 35.7°C recorded on March 7. Other stations also reported high temperatures. Lodi Road recorded 37.1°C, while Ayanagar and Ridge both touched 37.4°C.
These readings are about 8–9°C above the normal temperature for early March, indicating unusually warm conditions across the capital.
Unusual warmth for early March
The temperature recorded yesterday is also notable because it was one of the highest readings for the first half of March in the past 15 years.
Delhi does cross 38°C in March occasionally, but such values are usually observed during the last week of the month.
For reference, the city recorded 38.9°C on March 26, 2025, while the highest March temperature since 2010 was 40.1°C recorded on March 30, 2021.
Temperature may stay high today
Warm and dry winds are expected to continue today. As a result, the maximum temperature may again reach around 37°C across Delhi and nearby areas.
However, this rising trend may slow down soon as a weather system approaches North India.
Rain likely around March 14–15
A Western Disturbance approaching the Western Himalayas around March 14 is expected to influence weather conditions over North India.
The system may induce a cyclonic circulation and an east–west trough in the vicinity of Delhi, increasing the chances of rainfall.
Light rain or thundershowers may occur late night on March 14 or on March 15.
Temperatures may fall after rainfall
Rainfall in nearby states and a change in wind direction may influence Delhi’s weather.
Following the rain, day temperatures may drop close to 30°C for a couple of days, bringing relief from the recent heat.
Another weather system next week
Another weather system may affect North India between March 18 and March 20, bringing another chance of rain and thunderstorms in the Delhi region.
These systems could mark the beginning of early pre-monsoon weather activity.
