The Weather Systems Over The Country
The depression over East Vidarbha and adjoining West-Central Chhattisgarh has moved westward at a speed of 15 kmph during the past six hours. At 5:30 a.m. IST on July 31, it was centred over Central Vidarbha and adjoining South Madhya Pradesh, near 20.9°N latitude and 78.6°E longitude. It was located about 30 km north of Wardha, 60 km west of Nagpur (Maharashtra), and 130 km south-southeast of Betul (Madhya Pradesh). The system is likely to move in a west-northwestward direction across Vidarbha and South Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level now extends from Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Betul, through the centre of the depression over Central Vidarbha and adjoining South Madhya Pradesh, to Puri, before extending southeastwards into the central Bay of Bengal. The trough extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
An east-west shear zone is running along 21°N latitude across Central and adjoining North Peninsular India between 3.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southward with height.
A Western Disturbance, seen as a cyclonic circulation, is present over North Haryana and adjoining areas at 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Another cyclonic circulation persists over the central parts of Assam.
The offshore trough at mean sea level extends from South Gujarat to the North Kerala coast.
