Key Takeaways:

  • Mumbai likely to see light, brief showers late today or tomorrow
  • Rainfall to remain confined to northern suburbs and nearby regions
  • No major relief expected from warm and humid conditions
  • Typical pre-monsoon weather to return after April 4

Mumbai observed dry weather conditions throughout March. The first half of March was extremely rough, with heat wave conditions on a couple of days. The temperature breached 40°C on 10th March 2025. Otherwise, the capital city has not breached this mark even in April for the last 15 years. Day temperatures have stayed between 31°–32°C yesterday and today. The sea breeze has been arriving earlier than normal, restricting any abrupt rise of mercury. Similar conditions are likely to continue for the next one week or so. There is a chance for the city and suburbs to get light rainfall sometime late today or tomorrow. However, this will not provide any relief from the prevailing warm and sultry conditions.

There is a long north-south oriented longitudinal band of clouds from North Afghanistan to the Northeast Arabian Sea, across central and south Pakistan. An active Western Disturbance is travelling across Central Asia and the Iranian region. There is a cyclonic circulation over Southeast Pakistan and the Kutch region in the lower levels. This feature is pushing moist winds across Saurashtra, South Gujarat, and the Konkan region. Under favourable conditions, the cloud band will shift eastward and move across Gujarat, Konkan, and North Madhya Maharashtra. Though these parts will fall on the outer periphery of the main system, they still stand a chance of fleeting light showers, affecting Saurashtra, Central & South Gujarat, and the North Konkan region.

Light rainfall may break the jinx of prolonged dry weather conditions for Mumbai and suburbs. The activity may remain confined to the northern outermost areas of Mumbai. Light showers for a brief duration are quite likely over Dahanu, Matheran, Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, Santacruz, Colaba, and Alibag. From 04th onwards, the city and suburbs will get back to typical pre-monsoonal weather, braving warm and humid conditions.
