Delhi Weather: March Ends On Rainy And Warm Note; More Showers Ahead
Key Takeaways:
- March ends warmer than normal despite late-month rainfall
- Safdarjung rainfall slightly above monthly average
- Rain and thunderstorms expected through April 1
- No heatwave risk in Delhi during first half of April
After staying mostly pleasant in the second half of March, the fag end was still warm and rainy too for Delhi. The day temperature hovered around 35°–36°C on Sunday and Monday, above normal by 3°–4°C. There were light stray showers also in some areas. Base station Safdarjung recorded 0.5 mm rainfall yesterday evening. The capital city recorded a total of 19.4 mm rainfall in March as against the normal of 19.1 mm. Any further rainfall today will be accounted for April.
Month of March was rather unusual with contrasting conditions during the two halves. While it was dry and hot in the first half, the second fortnight witnessed light rainfall on 10 days. The day temperatures remained suppressed, and the lowest day temperature of 21.7°C was recorded on 21st Mar 2026. Despite better conditions in the second half, the mean monthly maximum was 32.6°C, against the normal of 29.9°C. The mean minimum temperature was 17.6°C, about 2°C more than the normal of 15.6°C. Yet, there was little respite in terms of heat stress. The maximum temperature does reach 40°C during the last days of the month, as it happened in March 2021. The maximum temperature crossed the 36°C mark only on two occasions, and the highest got arrested at 36.8°C on 11th Mar 2026.
Delhi is expected to have more rainfall today and tomorrow. Weather activity is likely in the evening and night hours. Forenoon and afternoon hours will find a partly cloudy sky and light breeze. Thursday, 02nd April, may remain free from any precipitation. However, pre-monsoon showers will become more frequent and slightly stronger as well from 03rd April onwards. The wet spell may last for over one week, between 03rd and 10th April. These showers will be intermittent and have sufficient ‘breaks’ in between. No heat wave is likely in the first half of April.
