- Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
- The rainfall belt will gradually shift toward Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
- Rainfall intensity is expected to reduce significantly from July 10 onward.
- Forecast Validity: Next 5 to 7 days.
A low-pressure area, earlier over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and coastal parts, intensified into a depression. The system moved inland and is now marked over Jharkhand and interiors of Odisha, centered close to Ranchi. The depression will move further west-northwest and trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall over Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh. The heavy rainfall belt will further shift to West Madhya Pradesh, Southeast Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Gujarat region over the next two days.
In addition to the depression, there is an elongated east-west oriented shear zone along about 21°N, providing convergence all along the axis of the shear zone. This feature will enhance rainfall activity, both to the north and south of the axis, albeit more on the southern side. As such, there is a strong monsoon surge along the Konkan Coast complementing the shear zone. The depression will gradually weaken into a low-pressure area and rainfall activity will reduce after three days.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected during the next 24 hours over Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Places at risk include Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Bilaspur, Ambikapur and Raipur.
The heavy rainfall belt will shift toward Madhya Pradesh tomorrow and later extend to cover the tri-junction of Southwest Madhya Pradesh, North Madhya Maharashtra and Southeast Rajasthan. Heavy rains will travel into the interiors of Gujarat as well, covering Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda and adjoining areas. Moderate to heavy rains will continue on 09th July as well, but with reduced vigour. The intensity and spread are likely to reduce considerably from Friday, 10th July 2026 onward.
